A heart for the past with a mind towards the future.
My journey to midwifery has been a long road. I yearned to be a midwife 30 years ago, but my home state did not license midwives at the time and there were only two schools listed on the baby internet and they were on opposite sides of the coasts. So instead, I read every book on birth I could get ahold of and continued college.
In 2000, I got married and moved to South Carolina, and in 2003, all my dreams came true: I become a mother and I had my first home birth. My son was born in 2006 and in 2008 I experienced a term hospital transfer with my second daughter. I honored the unexpected experience, and in 2012, I began attending births with a local midwife. I wanted to document the beauty of birth and for the past 11 years I did just that. I also spent most of those years as a doula and then in 2018, I began full time study and training to become a midwife.
Since my first catch in early 2019, I have been primary midwife for well over a 100 women in birth. I have trained and have experience in, managing breech, shoulder dystocia, neonatal resuscitations, emergency transfers, and postpartum hemorrhages. I have been blessed to attend hundreds of women in birth for over a decade , learning not only the mysteries of birth, but observing and learning clinical skills from amazing midwives.
My passions are nutrition and homeopathy, growing herbal therapies, breastfeeding, and postpartum care.
My goal as a midwife is to continue to practice and perfect my skills with ongoing education, but to also remember that touch and time and a warm drink heal, not only bodies, but spirits.
